Meditation
is a proven approach to reduce personal stress, improve creativity, and
deepen our understanding of ourselves. It's pedigree dates back
millennia and it has been used by millions.
In an era when we know that
workplace anxiety and stress are major causes of absence and longer-term
illness; where the pressure to be creative is constantly increasing; and
the managerial skill most in need of development is known to be emotional
intelligence - meditation has a major contribution to play.
This great, short course
helps you unwind, be more creative, improves prioritisation and decision
making. It's an important tool for all adults:
- As a way of coping
with pressure, increasing responsibility, and heightened demands on
productivity, it is a valuable skills that anyone in the first half of
their career (typically 25-45) can benefit from.
- For personal
development, where people are focused on their relationships (at work
and at home) and their emotions, and trying to make sense of their life
generally, it is essential for folks in the second half of their careers
(typically 45 onwards).
While some people have
heard of meditation and a few have practised it, most folks associate it
with painful postures, bearded gurus, religious practices and strange
chants. Sadly, it remains a fringe mystery!
This course puts the
record straight... it simply calls for an open mind, and a commitment to
give it a go. Meditation is fun, its incredibly liberating, and
takes only a few minutes a day to see huge benefits.
We learn a simple process
that helps the mind to relax, that quietens its attempts to distract us,
allows us to control our thoughts, and enter a more creative zone.
In 3, one hour sessions,
we cover all the essentials, dispelling myths, exploring realities, and
fine tuning a meditative practice for every participant. There's no
pain, mantras, or religious mumbo-jumbo. However, it is not
lightweight either - starting from a basic set of definitions, we look at
the brain and it's behaviour, the use of meditation to reduce the impact
of pressure, anxiety and stress, the use of it in decision making,
creativity and personal development.
This is an excellent
module to fit within longer residential courses, such as MBAs, as it
provides a tool to promote reflective learning, is a tangible skill of
great benefit to students, and can easily be fitted in to a crowded
teaching schedule.
