It's rather
blindingly obvious that if we are doing something that we feel passionate
about, that really inspires us, that makes us feel quietly proud of
ourselves, then we will do it better!
Yet, so many of
us find ourselves, especially at the outset of our working lives, at a
loss as to what to do. Consequently, we end up taking the first job
offered and regret it ever after!
Decades later,
we bemoan the lack of decent careers advice at school. When
redundancy is offered we bite the hand of the person offering it, we are
so keen to do something, ANYTHING, different. We read about role
models of business who seem to be working in places, doing jobs, making
things, serving people, that we'd describe as heaven. We hear of
school friends who are flying planes in Australia, running wildlife
sanctuaries in Sumatra, or being flown into war-zones as negotiators, and
we wonder why we're doing a (stiffling his yawn) boring 9-5:30 in London
commuting from Sevenoaks each day. (NB That's nothing personal about
Sevenoaks which is, I am told, a perfectly pleasant place.)
So what's
stopping us?
The first step,
is to discover that passion. What it is that would make us leap out
of bed in the morning. What it is that would have us saying; "Thank
Goodness, it's Monday!"
The next step
is build a plan to find a way into that environment. And the final
step is to do so!
These four,
fortnightly, 90 minute sessions help turn these dreams into reality.
We can't achieve miracles - your dream might involve a lot of preparation
- but we can start the journey.
The sessions
can be run as a stand-alone programme or as part of a longer-term course,
such as an MBA, Diploma or Certificate in Management.
Often, 'life-changing'
gets squeezed out of the curriculum of these courses, even though most
students arrive expecting their lives to be changed. The pressure on
class time and the 'heavier' topics means something hard to tie down has
to give way. Well, with only four 90 minute sessions to schedule in,
this could be a way of meeting the need without compromising on other
content. If you are the director of such a programme, why not give me a
call and we can find a way of building "Finding Your Passion" into the
schedule.
A public programme is begins
in the New Year on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30, at The Wren, Idol Lane,
London EC3 at a cost of £149 per person - for further information, please
call or email.
